Travel is expected to be difficult Saturday as another round of heavy snow and mixed precipitation is forecasted to move through the area.
According to the National Weather Service, precipitation is slated to begin Saturday afternoon and continue through Sunday. Snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches are expected in Freeborn County, and a light glaze of ice accumulation is possible.
Freeborn County will be under a winter weather advisory from noon Saturday through 3 a.m. Sunday. Faribault, Waseca and Steele counties will be under a winter storm warning and could receive 6 to 9 inches of snow.
Motorists are reminded to drive with caution, be prepared for changing weather conditions and to consult weather and road information before traveling.
Winds gusting as high as 35 mph will cause areas of blowing and drifting snow.
MnDOT advised motorists to remember to do the following:
• Stay alert for snowplows, which turn or exit frequently and often with little warning.
• Stay back at least 10 car lengths behind the plow.
• Don’t drive into a snow cloud.
• Slow down to a safe speed for current conditions.
• Turn on your headlights and wear your seat belt.
• Turn off cruise control.
• Don’t drive distracted.
