Letter: Time for an honest interpretation of the Constitution

Published 8:36 pm Wednesday, March 7, 2018

The terrible shooting in Florida has again prompted the NRA and members to assert gun rights. The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution reads, “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” This means the right to bear arms is given to the military and police. Civilians are not given gun rights by this amendment.

It is time to confront the NRA with an accurate and honest interpretation of the Constitution, and Congress must pass some restrictive gun laws.
