Albert Lea Community Theatre continues its 53rd season with the drama “The Miracle Worker” at Marion Ross Performing Arts Center.
Written by William Gibson and immortalized on stage and screen, “The Miracle Worker” tells the story of Anne Sullivan and her student, Helen Keller, who is blind and mute.
The play dramatizes the volatile relationship between the lonely teacher and her charge. Trapped in a secret, silent world, unable to communicate, Helen is violent, spoiled and almost sub-human, and treated by her family as such. Only Anne realizes that there is a mind and spirit waiting to be rescued from the dark, tortured silence.
Some of the primary cast members include Zsofi Eastvold as Helen, Misty Nelson as Anne, Jennifer Modderman as Kate Keller, Mark Place as Captain Keller and Luke Zacharias as James Keller.
“The Miracle Worker,” directed by Glen Parsons, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. April 19 through April 23 and April 25 through April 28 at Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. There will also be a matinee performance at 2 p.m. April 22.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets may be purchased over the phone by calling 1-877-730-3144, online at actonbroadway.com or at the box office, which opens weekdays at 9 a.m. Tickets are also available at the Albert Lea Convention & Visitors Bureau.
