KENSETT — Worth County authorities are advising caution around railroads after a report that a child was possibly struck by a train Thursday evening in Kensett.

Worth County Sheriff Dan Fank said authorities do not believe the train struck the child. A report of a 4- to 6-year-old child wearing a blue shirt, red shorts and Crocs possibly being struck by a train at the intersection of Eighth Street and Walnut Street was made by Union Pacific Railroad employees at 6:24 p.m. Thursday.

Northwood and Kensett fire departments, Mercy Air Services, Mason City ambulance crews and United Pacific Railroad police assisted in the search Thursday evening.

Fank said no one has reported a child missing and there is no evidence the child was struck by the train. The train has been reviewed and video has been seen.

He hopes to find the child and teach the necessity of keeping a safe distance from trains because of the length of time it takes such machines to stop.

He said the train in this instance did not come to a full stop until it reached Minnesota.

Anyone with any information on the incident is advised to call 641-324-2481.
