Firefighter who died while on duty to be honored

The Minnesota Fire Service Foundation is putting out a call to fire departments around the state to attend Saturday’s visitation and Sunday’s memorial service for Mapleton firefighter Timothy Royce, who died in the line of duty March 30, according to a press release.

After Sunday’s funeral at Maple River High School, Royce will be transported back to Mankato accompanied by a processional of fire apparatuses.

Gov. Mark Dayton has ordered all United States and Minnesota flags be flown at half-staff at all state and federal buildings in the state of Minnesota from sunrise until sunset on Sunday.

Royce, 58, was a 17-year veteran of Mapleton Fire Department.

He died March 30 from a heart attack after responding to a traffic crash and medical call.
