Women Veterans of Freeborn County
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Women Veterans of Freeborn County met on April 4 at American Legion Post 56 in Albert Lea.
Women veterans present included Pat Johannsen, Barb Babb, Gloria Dirkson, Deanna Luedtke, Ruth Perry, Sandy Maiden, Joan Paczkowski and Judi Olson.
A new member joined the group. Amy Mayers works at Oak Park Place and is a Navy veteran.
Maiden announced that Delta Dental now has a program for veterans.
The treasurer’s report was given. Johannsen requested reimbursement for yarn for making the prayer shawls she donates to the care baskets given at the state conference. The request was approved and a check was written to her.
St. John’s requested help with cakes. Johannsen volunteered to bake a cake for them.
Luedtke announced Disabled American Veterans and Olmsted County will sponsor the second annual Women Veterans Gala May 24 in Rochester. Most of the group plans to attend.
Ruth Perry has been selected as the grand marshall for the Third of July Parade.
The Women Veterans Conference will be May 26 at Ramada Inn in Plymouth. Luedtke will arrange for van to transport those who would like to attend.
The fall luncheon will be Sept. 29 at the Apple Valley American Legion Post.
The traveling Vietnam Wall will be in Austin from May 17 to May 20.
Maiden volunteered to take food donations to the food pantry.
The next meeting of the Women Veterans of Freeborn County will be at 11:30 a.m. May 2 at American Legion Post 56 in Albert Lea. All women military veterans are encouraged to join the group for lunch, discussion and camaraderie. For more information, call Luedtke at 414-530-3982.
Mansfield 4-H Club
The Mansfield 4-H meeting was March 10 at the bowling alley in Forest City, Iowa. The club enjoyed bowling and pizza, and had their meeting afterwards. The meeting was called to order by vice president Tage Suhr. Roll call was given. Three adults, four kids and one guest was present. The secretary’s report was given an excepted by Raven Suhr. The treasurer’s report was given excepted by Caleb Songstad. The club discussed Share of the Fun, leadership outing dates and the dates of the 4-H camps.
For new business, the group talked about the livestock workshop, rabbit show that’s in Austin and a dog orientation in April.
The meeting was adjourned first by Raven Suhr, second by Songstad. The next meeting will be at 5 p.m. April 8 at Mansfield Town Hall, which will be its spring cleaning day.
