A Glenville man facing multiple charges in Freeborn County District Court after being accused of getting into an altercation with a woman and shooting at her pickup last August was found not guilty Thursday in Freeborn County District Court.

Titus John Weedman

Titus John Weedman, 37, was found not guilty of first-degree criminal damage to property and unsafe discharge of a firearm on the third day of a jury trial. One count of fifth-degree controlled substance possession was dismissed Tuesday and one count of being an ineligible person in possession of a firearm was dismissed Thursday.

Public Defender Grant Sanders said the controlled substance charge was dismissed because the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension had not provided drug test results to the Freeborn County Attorney’s Office. County Attorney David Walker reportedly recommended the firearm count be dismissed.

On Friday, Sanders said the jury evaluated the evidence and reached a decision, and “they honor and respect that decision.”

Court documents state Weedman was charged after a deputy responded to a call for assistance regarding a truck at 5:03 a.m. Aug. 5. The truck had been completely destroyed by a fire.

Weedman was accused of slashing the front tires of the truck with a knife, while the woman ran to a ditch to hide from him.

The woman said she heard sounds, which she described as “pow, pow, pow, pow.” She said she did not know whether the sound was coming from a gun, a BB gun or rocks being thrown at the vehicle, but whatever it was hit the front of the vehicle.

Walker did not return a request for comment Friday.
