Here are highlights in history for May 24, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1986 — An article in the Tribune honored Glaydon Iverson of Emmons. He died on Dec. 7, 1941, at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and was Freeborn County’s first World War II casualty.

1976 — A full page ad in the Tribune featured Bob & Joe’s Discount Foods “on your friendly north side.” (This store’s former site is now the Salvation Army Store.)

1966 — Andrew Sanders was elected commander of Albert Lea’s Leo Carey Post 56 of the American Legion.
