To the arrest of Blooming Prairie woman Lois Riess.
Blooming Prairie woman Lois Riess, suspected of killing her husband in Minnesota and then fleeing to Florida and killing a woman there, was captured by two federal deputy marshals Thursday evening at a South Padre Island, Texas, restaurant.
She had been on the run since at least late March when her husband, David Riess, was found fatally shot at their home in Blooming Prairie.
We commend all of the authorities who have been involved in the long search for her and hope now the community and the nation can find out more answers about what has taken place.
To the collaboration between the students in the Albert Lea Area Schools transitions program and pre-kindergarteners at Brookside Education Center.
It is always positive to see collaborations in the community, so we were pleased to hear about students in the transitions program interacting with a pre-kindergarten class this week on a fun, simple project.
The idea encourages building relationships and learning from each other, and we look forward to seeing more of it done in the future.
To a string of burglaries at Verizon stores.
Four teenagers were arrested Wednesday morning after a series of burglaries at Verizon stores that ended when they reportedly attempted to burglarize an Albert Lea Verizon store.
The arrests came after authorities received information from Mason City police about burglaries at Verizon stores Mason City and Forest City.
We commend the local officer who noticed a white vehicle similar to a description of the suspect vehicle at the Albert Lea store and who ultimately helped prevent another burglary.
To Albert Lean Bonnie Gullickson.
Congratulations to Albert Lean Bonnie Gullickson, whose success story was slated to air today on an NBC television show.
Gullickson, a CNA at St. John’s Lutheran Community, has lost more than 100 pounds and was one of two women chosen to share her story from a group of 25 Anytime Fitness members from across the country.
Hats off to Gullickson for all of her hard work, and we are excited to see the show.
