Trinity Lutheran Church Women
The Trinity Lutheran Church Women of Albert Lea Salad Luncheon was at noon April 4. Pat Goldman played the piano as people arrived. Co-president LeAnn Juveland welcomed everyone and thanked them for coming.
The Rev. Eileen Woyen shared devotions from “A Day Book,” by Henri J. Nouwen. She talked about daring to be dependent, receiving is an art, receiving with the heart is a gesture of humility and love. Woyen led the group in singing, “Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow,” as our table prayer. A salad luncheon followed.
Members of Trinity Lutheran Church Women provided salads. There were guests from other churches. The group invited 30 churches. The Elizabeth circle served the luncheon. Shorty Jensen and Greg Andersen assisted the circle.
Following the luncheon, Jan Drews introduced the program, “Decorative Eggs” by Goldman.
Goldman has collected decorative eggs for 35 years. Some of the places she found them at were garage sales, on vacations and gifts from people.
Why do people associate eggs with Easter? For Christians it is a sign for rebirth. Early man associated eggs with storms and creation. Red eggs were thought to have magical powers. With Christianity red eggs symbolize the blood of Jesus. The earliest eggs decorated predate Christianity. Every symbol and design have special meanings on an egg. Art is done mostly by women. Eggs remind Christians of the miracle of life and hope for the future. As Goldman gave her program, boxes of eggs were passed from one table to the next.
Juveland closed the meeting by thanking the circle serving and seeing how many came from other churches.
Announcements were made for the Trinity ladies.
Lutheran World Relief van will be in May. Donations are needed.
The meeting closed with a prayer lead by Woyen.
