An Albert Lea woman was injured Thursday when she was struck by a vehicle on West Main Street.

Tanya Marie Anthonisen, 33, was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea with a possible broken elbow and internal injuries. Her condition was unknown as of Thursday night.

According to Albert Lea police, a 2003 Buick Century driven by Kenneth Paul Keesling, 85, of Albert Lea was heading east on West Main Street in the outside lane of traffic when a truck ahead of him slowed down, and he merged to the inside lane, where he struck Anthonisen.

Police found Anthonisen laying in the street in the east lanes of West Main Street.

A press release states she was crossing from the south to the north.

The incident was reported at 3:07 p.m. at the intersection of Washington Avenue and West Main Street. There are crosswalks marked on the pavement going across West Main Street.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, according to police. Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office assisted on scene.

Police stated Minnesota law requires drivers to stop and yield to pedestrians in crosswalks. Pedestrians should use caution when crossing any streets and particularly roads with more than one lane of traffic in each direction.
