An Elmore motorcyclist was injured Sunday evening when he collided with a tractor in Worth County.

Shawn Boyd, 40, was taken by Mercy Air helicopter to Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

The state agency indicated a John Deere tractor, driven by Isaac Hovey, 29, of Northwood, was traveling eastbound on State Highway 105 with its flashers on. Hovey reportedly attempted to turn into a driveway on the north side of the road when Boyd, who was driving a 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, attempted to pass the tractor on the left side at a high rate of speed and struck the front of the tractor.

Boyd reportedly was thrown from the bike and came to rest in the north ditch east of the driveway.

Hovey was not injured.

The Worth County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
