A.L. Post 56 falls to Rochester

The Albert Lea Post 56 baseball team traveled to Rochester Tuesday night in hopes of continuing their season-opening hot streak.

Despite scoring the first batter of the game, Albert Lea was unable to hold on to its early lead, falling to Rochester Century 7-2.

Carter Simon led off the game for Albert Lea by reaching on a single and was advanced along on a sacrifice hit by Alex Goodmanson. Simon was brought in  on an RBI-double from Alex Bledsoe. Carson Goodell also reached base safely after a four-pitch walk, but both runners were left on the bases to end the inning.

After a leadoff walk, Albert Lea was able to buckle down defensively and retire the next three batters, to escape the first with a 1-0 lead.

Simon and Ty Harms both reached with back-to-back two-out singles in the second, but they were left on base after a strikeout ended the top half of the inning.

Century tied the game in the bottom half of the second after a RBI single.

With the score at 1-1 at the top of the third, Albert Lea was able to hold off a surging Century team for an inning, before they climbed into the lead with a four-run fourth inning.

Albert Lea did add a run in the sixth inning, after Garret Piechowski reached on a fielders choice and was batted in on a sacrifice fly from Parker Andersen, but Century countered with another run of their own in the bottom of the inning.

Post 56 was unable to mount the comeback rally in the seventh, with the first three batters being set down.

Brock Hammer started on the mound for Albert Lea. Hammer walked just three batters throughout the game and striking out one.

Goodell had a nice day at the plate going 2-2 with a walk. Simon went 2-4, scoring a run and recording a stolen base.

Bledose notched an RBI while going 2-3. Andersen notched the second RBI, while going 1-2.

As a team, Albert Lea scored two runs on nine hits and recorded two errors. Rochester Century scored seven runs on  seven hits and recorded zero errors.

Albert Lea Post 56 falls to 2-1 on the season and will be back on the diamond Thursday night, when they host Faribault at Hayek Field, with the first pitch scheduled to be thrown at 7 p.m.
