No. 5 Bulldogs win dramatic opener 8-7

LAKE MILLS, Iowa — The Lake Mills Bulldogs baseball team scored six runs in the final two innings Monday and rallied from back a five-run deficit to win 8-7 over West Fork in Lake Mills, Iowa.

It was the season opener for the No. 5-ranked Bulldogs, who return eight starters of last year’s team that set a school-record in wins.

Trailing West Fork 6-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning with one out, Taylor Throne and Drey LyBarger walked, and Josh Zabel hit an RBI double to pull the Bulldogs within four.

West Fork then pulled their starting pitcher before Bryan Hengesteg hit a two-run single and later scored on a double steal to pull the Bulldogs within 6-5.

West Fork scored in the top of the seventh before the Bulldogs drew three walks to leadoff the the bottom of the frame.

LyBarger and Throne tied the game with RBIs and Dylan Davis hit a walkoff single to left field with the bases loaded.
