Hartland man sentenced to probation for criminal sexual conduct

A Hartland man who reportedly sexually abused a teenage girl he knew in October was placed on probation for 10 to 25 years on Monday in Freeborn County District Court.
Dennis James Posey, 52, was sentenced after he pleaded guilty in February to second-degree criminal sexual conduct. While on probation, Judge Steven Schwab ordered Posey to complete a psychological evaluation and treatment, individual therapy, not to enter places where sexual materials are available, have no contact with the victim, register as a predatory offender and follow other requirements.
He was given a stayed four-year prison sentence. He was sentenced to 365 days in jail and was given credit for 146 days served.
Court documents state Posey was charged after he reportedly sexually assaulted the girl over a three-day period in October.
The charge Posey was sentenced for states at the time of the incidents, Posey was in a position of authority over the victim.
Posey was charged with one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and an additional count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, but those charges were dismissed.
