A Minneapolis woman who reportedly led officers on a high-speed chase Wednesday on Interstate 35 was charged with a felony Thursday in Freeborn County District Court.

Eula Latrice Davis, 48, is charged with fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, misdemeanor reckless driving and petty misdemeanor speeding.

A Minnesota State Patrol trooper was reportedly alerted to Davis while parked at a crossover at about 12:34 p.m. Wednesday on I-35 in Steele County south of Owatonna. According to court documents, he observed a dark car pass him heading south at 103 mph before briefly slowing down after being caught up in traffic north of the Ellendale exit.

The trooper reportedly activated his siren and emergency lights behind the vehicle, and speeds then reached 90 to 105 mph. Davis allegedly signaled and turned right to go around a semi in the left lane.

Court documents state stop sticks were set up north of the intersection of interstates 35 and 90. The stop sticks reportedly struck the front of the vehicle.

The vehicle exited I-35 to Albert Lea when the front driver’s side tire began to fall off, court documents state. The vehicle then pulled over and stopped.

After she was arrested, Davis reportedly said she owned the vehicle and her family had been killed in Minneapolis, but that was not true, court documents state.

Davis was described as being “somewhat confused at the time of the traffic stop, but appeared to have a normal demeanor at the jail.”

Assistant Freeborn County Attorney Karyn Sackis Lunn requested Davis be released on her own recognizance because of her lack of criminal record.

Davis said she planned to learn how to read and attend college.

Judge Ross Leuning released Davis on her own recognizance but noted his concern about the danger Davis posed to other motorists.

“It makes me worry,” he said.

Davis promised not to engage in similar behavior.

Davis’ next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 9.
