MINNEAPOLIS — A sentencing date has been set for a former Minnesota FBI counterterrorism agent who was caught leaking classified documents to a news outlet.

Thirty-nine-year-old Terry James Albury pleaded guilty in April to two counts of unauthorized disclosure or retention of national defense information. Each count is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. A federal judge on Friday set sentencing for Oct. 18.

Prosecutor David Recker wants to enhance the sentence because Albury’s actions were an “abuse of public trust.”

The Trump administration has made prosecuting government employees who leak sensitive information to the media a high priority.

One leaked document relating to how the FBI assesses confidential informants corresponded with a story published by The Intercept last year.
