1. 91st Shortstop Tournament

Ninety-six entrants from around the area will compete against each other in this year’s Shortstop Tournament, which spans three days. The tournament will take place at Green Lea Golf Course and is sure to draw in many competitive players and fans. The tournament starts Saturday and will last until Monday, so there will be plenty of action to watch. Each competitor will either play in a nine- or 18-hole tournament based off of qualifying positions.

 

2. Mrs. Gerry’s Labor Day Couples Invitational

Wedgewood Cove Golf Club will host a golfing event for couples over the weekend. The event will be from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. The invitational will be played in shamble format. Each person will tee off, and whoever has the best shot between the two marks the position they will both continue on from for that hole. The fee is $100 for each couple, which covers the golf cart, range balls, prize pools, gift bags and hole prizes. After the tournament, there will be prizes and a meal.

 

3. The Escape Artists

The Freeborn County Arts Initiative has had “The Escape Artists” on exhibit since July 14. This weekend marks the last days the exhibition will be on display for the public. “The Escape Artists” are a group of over a dozen Midwestern artists who have worked together to display the exhibit. The book, “Escape Artists,” by local artist Susanne Crane explains the process and work of all the artists. Stop in and explore the talented work of the Midwest artists.

 

4. Shangri-La

Harmony Park will host a three-day music festival starting Friday. Shangri-La will celebrate many talented artists, including The Polish Ambassador, Arrested Development, Wookiefoot and more. 5. Albert Lea Farmers Market

From baked goods to arts and crafts, the farmers market has got you covered. A variety of baked goods, vegetables and jams will be for sale. The market will run from 9 a.m to noon Saturday in the Northbridge Mall parking lot. There are many kinds of fresh produce to pick from, so make sure to check it out.
