A urology clinic is expected to open next month in Albert Lea.
The clinic, expected to open Oct. 3 at 1608 W. Fountain St., will be staffed with board-certified and board-eligible urologists, according to a press release announcing the decision.
It is expected to initially open at 1 p.m. Wednesdays with the possibility of future extended hours.
The four urologists at the clinic will be Kevin Rier, Timothy Mulholland, Christopher Adams and Steven Thoma, who all work at Mason City Clinic. They are expected to operate on a rotating basis and will rent space from Tubbs Chiropractic.
The announcement came as Mayo Clinic Health System transitions most inpatient services from Albert Lea to Austin. Urology services are not part of the transition. Urology services have been in Austin for two years after the previous urologist who covered Albert Lea and Austin retired.
“The residents are accustomed to getting urology care in town and were suddenly faced with long car drives to access their doctors,” Rier said. “We are now bringing convenience, accessibility and high-quality urology care to the residents of Albert Lea.”
The new clinic is expected to offer comprehensive urologic care for kidney, bladder, testicular and prostate cancers, incontinence and men’s sexual health issues through modern, non-surgical ways, according to the release.
“We know there is a great need for specialized medical care in Albert Lea, and we are pleased to be able to serve the community with high-quality, comprehensive urologic care close to home,” Rier said.
Mulholland said Mason City Clinic had excess capacity, and Albert Lea is in its service area.
“Albert Lea is a great city nearby us, and we’ve always wanted to provide urology services, and we’re glad to bring it,” he said.
Mason City Clinic offers speciality medical care, with 41 physicians representing 12 specialties.
