LELAND, Iowa — A Forest City woman died after a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in Winnebago County.

The Iowa State Patrol said Shirley Arlene Schutter, 88, of Forest City had stopped at a stop sign at Fifth Avenue West and U.S. Highway 69 in Leland before pulling her 2004 Buick LeSabre into the path of a truck.

A 2005 Ford F-250 Superduty driven by Ethan Edward Schutter, 27, of Lake Mills south on Highway 69 struck the LeSabre on the driver’s side of the vehicle, according to an Iowa State Patrol crash report.

The LeSabre landed in the ditch on the southeast corner of the intersection and struck a street sign. Shirley Schutter died at the scene, the State Patrol said.

An obituary lists Ethan Schutter as Shirley Schutter’s grandson.

The Forest City Fire Department assisted at the scene.
