Allan Edgar “Al” Avery, 67, of Owatonna died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018.
He was born Jan. 2, 1951, in Albert Lea, the son of Edgar and Betty Avery. Al graduated from Albert Lea High School. He worked for and retired from Wenger Corporation. He was a member of Pontoppidan Lutheran Church. After 25 happy years together, Al married Nancy Heidtke on Dec. 19, 2009.
Al enjoyed fishing, watching the Minnesota Vikings and Twins, traveling with his wife, and morning coffee with Nancy and friends.
Al is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughters Paula (Jayson) Christianson of Albert Lea and Peggy Avery of Albert Lea; stepsons Matt (Kathy) Firebaugh of Owatonna and Nate Firebaugh of Dodge Center; brother, Vic (Donna) Avery, of Albert Lea; and sisters Mary Lou Funke of Bancroft, Iowa, and Phyllis (Gerald) Lamping of Keewatin. He is also survived by man’s best friend: Al’s dog, Dozier.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law Frank Funke and Ivan Alver.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Michaelson Funeral Home and from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church. The Revs. Mike Walerius and Dick Hegel will officiate. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Pontoppidan Lutheran Church, members of the family or to the donor’s choice.
