Lake Mills sprinter qualifies for finals in two events

The first day of the Iowa boys’ and girls’ state track and field meet took place Thursday at Drake University in Des Moines with one Lake Mills runner advancing to the finals in two events.
Lake Mills freshman Haley Krull qualified for the finals in both the 100 and 200-meter dash. Krull turned in the fourth-best qualifying time in the 100 by finishing in 12.81 seconds. She placed second overall in the prelims in the 200 with a time of 26.02.
The 4×800 relay team of Lindy Pins, Darcy Nelson, Catherine Adams and Sammy Nelson placed 10th for the Bulldogs with a time of 10:06.42, but missed out on the finals.
The 4×110 shuttle hurdle relay was the only event the Lake Mills boys’ team qualified for state and the team of Ethan Schutter, Jerod Harmon, Marcus Gaskill and Jack Olson ran a 1:03.44, for 16th overall and did not qualify for the finals.
Sam Arnold and Trevor Davidson competed for the Northwood-Kensett boys’ track and field team on the first day, but neither advanced to the finals.
Arnold ran the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.02, but missed the finals by .13 seconds. Davidson did not record a jump in the long jump.
The state meet resumes Friday for relay events and hurdle events.
