Two San Diego residents who allegedly possessed 10 pounds of methamphetamine last month in Freeborn County are now facing federal charges in connection with the incident.

Janet Elizabeth Lockwood, 58, and Charles Edward Huller III, 47, are each charged with possession of meth with the intent to distribute.

Court documents state they were arrested after authorities found 10 cellophane-wrapped packages each containing approximately 1 pound of suspected meth in the trunk of the vehicle they were driving during a traffic stop Oct. 19 on Interstate 35. Two grams of meth were later taken from Huller in the Freeborn County jail. 

U.S. District Court documents state during a post-arrest interview, Lockwood said she was taking the meth to a customer in St. Paul, and Huller knew that at least 1 pound of meth was in the vehicle because they had used some of the drug during their drive from California.

The federal charges were filed Oct. 25.

Lockwood and Huller were charged with first-degree meth possession in Freeborn County, but those charges were dismissed Oct. 30.

Lockwood and Huller have been released on their own recognizance, contingent on them not violating federal, state or local laws; cooperating in the collections of DNA samples, appearing in court as directed and following other court requirements. They will not be able to contact each other during the case.
