Incumbent Albert Lea Ward 4 Councilor Reid Olson won a close election for his fourth term on the council.

By obtaining 52.04 percent of the vote, Olson defeated challenger Gary Hagen, who received 47.66 percent — 677 votes to 620 votes.

“I’m very happy that my ward has chosen to support me for one more term,” Olson said.

Hagen congratulated Olson, adding he hopes local officials listen to taxpayers and understand that favoring certain people is not OK.

He said he ran so Olson would not run unopposed and because he felt he was just as qualified.
