Funeral services for Raymond R. Nemec, 79, of Hayward will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Theodore Catholic Church. The Rev. Kurt Farrell will officiate. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church Saturday. Raymond Richard Nemec was born Nov. 20, 1938, in North Bend, Nebraska, to Thomas and Anne (Humlicek) Nemec. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick’s Church in North Bend. He graduated from North Bend High School in 1956. Raymond was in the Naval Reserves from 1956 to 1961.
On April 7, 1959, Ray married Elaine Brandt at St. Wenceslaus Church in Dodge, Nebraska. Raymond and Elaine resided on the family farm by North Bend until they moved to their farm 3 miles east of Hayward in 1962.
Along with farming full-time, Ray was involved with Minnesota Farmers Union, was a parishioner and trustee for St. Mary’s Catholic Church, was on the St. Mary’s Cemetery board and was involved with his children’s activities at school. He enjoyed watching all types of sporting events — whether they were for his kids, grandkids or on TV.
Survivors include six children, Edith (Brian) Erickson of Lakeville, Robin (Kevin) Christenson of Ostrander, Renee Wangen of Austin, Eileen Nemec of Robbinsdale, Ron (Darla) Nemec of Eden Prairie and Russ (Sheri) Nemec of Hayward; sister-in-law, Audrey Nemec, of Rush City; brother-in-law, Harold Kermes, of Hayward; and grandchildren Seth, Emma, Jessica, Jordan, Tony, Thomas, David, Matthew and Travis.
Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine, in 1984; sister, Loretta; brother, Tom; and his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the St. Mary’s Cemetery fund.
