The Albert Lea girls’ hockey team traveled to Fairmont Tuesday night looking for redemption after dropping its first game of the season to Faribault last Thursday.
The Tigers found their redemption in a big way, with five different players scoring goals as they cruised to a dominating defeat over the Cardinals, 7-1.
Sophomore Josie Venem was the leading goal scorer for the Tigers, finding the back of the net three times throughout the game. Juniors Mia Fjelsta and Katie Steven, sophomore Alli Dulitz and freshman Lucy Stay also got in on the scoring rally with one goal each. Stay was the lone Tiger that scored in the loss against Faribault, giving her a goal in back-to-back games.
The teamwork of Albert Lea was obvious Tuesday night, as each goal came off an assist from another teammate. Venem, Steven, Dulitz, Fjelsta, Stay, and juniors Daysha Luttrell and Rylee Bjorklund each recorded an assist on the night.
The Cardinals scored one goal past sophomore goalie Maddie Schneider, who picked up the win, notching 23 saves during the game.
The Tigers climb to 1-1 on the season and will be back on the ice Thursday when they travel to Mankato West to take on the 1-0 Scarlets. They will be back at home Saturday to face the 2-0 Minnehaha United.
