Zona Mae Marpe, 86, of rural Northwood died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Emmons Lutheran Church in Emmons. The Rev. David E. Schafer will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery in rural Emmons. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church Wednesday.
Zona Mae (Rovang) Marpe was born May 10, 1932, to parents Clifford Elmer and Alma Marie (Ecklund) Rovang. She attended and graduated from Emmons High School in Emmons and went on to receive a degree in nursing.
On Oct. 17, 1954, she married Roger Marpe at Emmons Lutheran Church. They made their home south of Emmons, where Roger farmed and Zona was the director of nursing at Lake Mills Care Center from 1968 until she retired in 1977. Zona also found time to tend to their home and the couple raised three boys: Scott, Todd and Kary.
Zona enjoyed many hobbies, including gardening —both flowers and vegetables, her many fruit trees, bird watching, painting, rosemaling and fishing. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Emmons Lutheran Church, volunteering in many capacities throughout the years.
She was forever proud of her boys, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her children Scott (Diane Honsey) Marpe of Emmons, Todd (Roxie) Marpe of Northwood and Kary Marpe of Minneapolis; three grandchildren, Nicole (Brad) Edwards of Hollandale, Sara (Jourdan) Ingledue of Northwood and Zach Marpe of Northwood; and great-grandchildren Ryker, Harper, Xander and Asher Edwards, and Chase, Taylor, Landon, Laylah and Aleah Ingledue.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roger, in 2016; and sister, Eileen Helgeson.
