The Albert Lea wrestling team got its season off to a good start in Hastings on Saturday, where it took two of three duals and saw two wrestlers finish 3-0 on the day and another notch a milestone in career wins.

The first dual pitted the Tigers against the Skippers of Minnetonka. The Tigers cruised to a 59-15 victory that included pinfall victories from seniors Nic Cantu and Zach Glazier, junior Ethan Jerdee, freshmen Cam Davis and Henry Eggum and eighth-grader Cole Glazier. The Tigers also got major decision wins from senior Caleb Miller and eighth-grader Aivin Wasmoen, a decision win from sophomore Josiah Hedensten, a disqualification win from senior Brady Nielsen and a forfeit win for sophomore Caleb Talamantes.

Albert Lea had a slightly tougher time against St. Francis, but still came out on top 44-28. Cole Glazier, Talamantes, Nielsen and Zach Glazier picked up falls in that dual. Cantu won in a technical fall, 19-2. Sophomores Griffin Studier, Wasmoen and Hedensten grabbed decision victories and Davis won on a forfeit.

In the third dual Albert Lea had a tough go against No. 1-ranked Shakopee, falling 51-14.

The only Tigers to pick up wins in the third dual were sophomore Derrick McMillian (pinfall in 0:40), Zach Glazier (technical fall 19-4) and Nielsen (decision 4-2).

Zach Glazier and Nielsen were the only Tigers to finish the day 3-0 and Cantu recorded the 100th win of his career.

The Tigers duals record climbs to 2-1 after the weekend and they will be back on the mat Friday at Mankato East with a triangular against the Cougars and the Falcons of Faribault.
