Tom Schleck will present an accounting of why some civilians did not serve in the Army or Navy during the Civil War, even as President Lincoln initially called for 75,000 troops to suppress the rebellion and preserve the Union. The meeting will be in the media center of Albert Lea’s Southwest Middle School on Thursday, commencing at 7 p.m. The event is open and free to the public.  A drawing for at least one free book will be had following a brief question-and-answer discussion at the close of the meeting.
