Fenske resigned the day of a Northwood-Kensett school board special meeting to discuss her job status after she was arrested Nov. 17 for drug paraphernalia possession, marijuana possession and meth possession. She was a high school family and consumer science teacher.

Northwood-Kensett business manager Deb Athey said Fenske did not explain why she resigned.

Following the arrest, Fenske had been placed on administrative leave, and substitute teachers had been hired while the investigation unfolded.

Fenske’s controlled substance arrest was her second. Athey declined to say whether the district was aware of the first arrest, noting it was a personnel issue.

According to the Worth County Sheriff’s Office, Fenske, Joya Salzkorn and Taylor Pohar were arrested after Worth County Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted a search warrant at about 11:30 a.m. Nov. 17 at 906 N. Third Ave. in Northwood. As a result of the search, several items of drug paraphernalia, meth, marijuana, prescription pills unaccompanied by a valid prescription and a handgun were found.

Salzkorn was arrested for unlawful prescription pills possession, marijuana possession and controlled substance possession; and Pohar was arrested for drug paraphernalia possession, marijuana possession, meth possession and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

The district has posted her former position on TeachIowa, the state’s employment site for school districts.
