Albert Lea wrestling takes 2 of 3 at Kiffmeyer Duals

The Albert Lea wrestling team took two out of three duals at the Kiffmeyer Duals on Saturday at St. Cloud Tech High School.
The Tigers came out on top of two close battles against No. 6-ranked (AA) Foley and Sauk Rapids, before falling in the finals to No. 3 Apple Valley.
In the first dual, Albert Lea climbed out to a 30-6 lead before Foley led a small comeback. Ultimately, Albert Lea held on to claim a 38-27 victory.
Two Tigers picked up pinfalls in the dual: eighth-grader Cole Glazier and sophomore Griffin Studier. Senior Zach Glazier and freshman Cam Davis each recorded technical falls, while senior Nic Cantu notched a 17-7 major decision. Other Tigers who grabbed wins in the dual were seniors Caleb Miller and Brady Nielsen, sophomore Caleb Talamantes and eighth-grader Derrick McMillian.
The second dual, against Sauk Rapids, saw Albert Lea trailing by three points with three matches remaining. Big pinfalls from senior leaders Nielsen and Zach Glazier gave the Tigers the late lead and the 37-34 win.
Along with Nielsen and Zach Glazier, Miller and Cole Glazier also picked up pinfalls. Eighth-grader Kaiden Indrelie, McMillian and Talamantes also picked up wins in the dual.
Albert Lea ran into a buzzsaw with Apple Valley in the tournament final. The Tigers grabbed just five wins en route to a 50-25 defeat.
Cole Glazier and Nielsen each won via pinfall, while Davis won by major decision. Cantu won via a decision and Zach Glazier won by forfeit.
The Tigers move to 11-4 on the season in dual action and will be back on the mat Friday when Albert Lea hosts the Spartans of Rochester Mayo at Albert Lea High School.
