The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Freeborn, Faribault and Blue Earth counties ahead of the storm expected to move into the area Friday morning.
Increased total snowfall amounts of 5 to 8 inches are likely, according to the weather agency.
Snow is expected to advance eastward across southern Minnesota late Thursday night and Friday morning.
Along with the accumulating snow, winds of 15 to 20 mph will likely bring minor blowing and drifting snow, creating slippery road conditions. The weather agency states both the Friday morning and evening commutes are expected to be impacted.
The heaviest snowfall is expected along the Minnesota and Iowa border.
The warning is in effect from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday.
