George Reisdorf, 1935-2019

Dr. George Edward Reisdorf passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 11, 2019.
He was born June 11, 1935, in St. Paul to parents, Jane and Edward.
Dr. Reisdorf is preceded in death by his parents, along with his brother, Ben.
He is survived by his sister, Peggy (Robert); Ben’s widow, Carole; former spouse, Emily; children Dwight (Kelly), Rachel (Curt) and Timothy (Amy); nine grandchildren, Trieste, Lauren, Ben, Paige, Justine, Christopher, Christian, Anjali and Mark; along with four great-grandchildren.
Dr. Reisdorf attended Central High School, the University of Minnesota and then University of Minnesota Medical School. After his internship at Minneapolis General Hospital, he served as a general doctor in Virginia, Minnesota.
Dr. Reisdorf then answered the call of the Army by going to Korea.
After returning stateside, Dr. Reisdorf began an orthopedic residency at Indiana University, where he met and married Emily Stonerock in 1968.
Dr. Reisdorf completed a fellowship in hand surgery in Detroit and then began a 14-year service at Park Nicollet Clinic and Methodist Hospital. Dr. Reisdorf then joined Albert Lea Clinic and became a country doctor.
He and his wife retired in Florida.
Dr. Reisdorf volunteered his surgical services for the African Medical Mission. Dr. Reisdorf’s last surgery took place in Africa in 2002. Dr. Reisdorf donated time during his mid- to late-70s to help The Farmworkers Mission near Tampa, Florida.
Dr. Reisdorf developed Parkinson’s disease, which in time ended his life.
A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hope Presbyterian Church, 7132 Portland Ave. S. in Richfield. A luncheon will follow the service. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
