An Albert Lea police officer noted that a vehicle was speeding on West Main Street. An attempt to stop this car resulted in a high-speed chase through the city’s central district and ended near the corner of Madison Avenue and West Seventh Street.
At this point the chase abruptly ended when the vehicle struck a utility pole. The vehicle was reportedly a total wreck. The driver left the vehicle, ran away and was chased by officers. The pursuit ended a short time later and the driver was taken into custody. Charges are pending in Freeborn County District Court.
The crash into the utility pole resulted in an electrical power outage for this part of the city.
Seventy-nine Alliant Energy customers were without power Sunday morning.
An Alliant Energy spokeswoman said the power outage occurred at 7:27 a.m. Sunday. Customers on Poplar Avenue, the 1300 and 1400 blocks of South Broadway Avenue and the 1400 block of Hamilton Avenue were affected.
The last customer received power back at 12:40 p.m.
