The NRHEG wrestling team traveled to Rochester Thursday night to take on John Marshall, Faribault and St. Charles in an interclass quad meet.

The Panthers, the smallest school at the meet were dominated by the other schools, going 0-3 on the night.

In the closest dual of the meet, NRHEG fell to John Marshall 41-27. Freshman Nikolas Petsinger, junior Andrew Reich and senior Tyler Jacobson each recorded pinfalls in the dual. Seventh-grader Annabelle Petsinger picked up a narrow 8-7 decision win at 106 pounds and senior Quinten Arndt won via forfeit at 285.

NRHEG won five matches again in the next dual, however, it wouldn’t come close to the margin Faribault set, 48-25.

Seventh-grader George Roesler and freshman Ralph Roesler each got pinfall victories, while Arndt won his second match of the night with a 15-2 major decision win. Nikolas Petsinger also picked up his second win at 113 pounds with a 5-2 decision. Eighth-grader Makota Misgen won via forfeit at 220 pounds.

In the third dual, NRHEG met with the only other Class A school, St. Charles. Despite being in the same class, NRHEG suffered its worst defeat of the night, falling 55-22.

Four Panthers notched wins in the dual, including Nikolas Petsinger and Arndt getting their third wins with a 13-3 major decision and a forfeit win, respectively. Jacobson won his match with a pinfall in the second period and sophomore Thor Routh got his first win of the day via pinfall.

“We were missing a couple guys tonight from a line up that is already not completely full,” said head coach Shawn Larson. “When that happens, you are giving the opposing team a lead to begin with and it is very hard to come back through that.

“I thought there were good things throughout each of these duals that we could focus on. I felt that our wrestlers were in better condition late in the matches, and I saw good efforts from a couple of wrestlers who may have been in a little slump. Nikolas Petsinger and Quinten Arndt were able to make it through the day without a loss. Nikolas is really improving and tonight he looked very good.”

NRHEG is 6-8 in dual action this year and will head back to Rochester Saturday, where it will compete in the Panthers invitational at Century High School.
