Six NRHEG wrestlers placed at the Panthers invitational Saturday at Rochester Century High School, including a first-place finish from senior Quinten Arndt.

The Panthers continued their upward trend through the 2018-19 season with a solid showing at a tough tournament against 14 other teams.

Arndt was the top place-finisher for the Panthers, taking home first-place honors at 285 pounds. Arndt went 4-0 on the day with three pinfalls, all of which occurred in the second period.

Senior Tyler Jacobson placed third at 170 pounds, going 4-1 through the tournament. He recorded two falls and a major decision, with his only loss coming as a 7-2 decision in the semifinals.

Junior Andrew Reich took fourth place with a 3-2 record at 132 pounds. He won via a fall, forfeit and one-point decision, but fell in both the semifinal and third-place matches.

The final place-winners for NRHEG were junior Argo Guswa, freshman Ralph Roesler and eighth-grader Makota Misgen, who each took sixth place.

Gushwa went 3-3 at 152 pounds with two byes and a pinfall in the quarterfinal round. Roesler went 3-3 at 160 pounds, also recording one pinfall and two forfeit victories. Misgen went 3-3 at 220 pounds.

Other wrestlers that competed at the tournament for the Panthers were seventh-graders Annabelle Petsinger and George Roseler, freshman Nikolas Petsinger and sophomore Thor Routh.

“This tournament was a mix of very tough competition,” said head coach Shawn Larson. “We were hoping for a better showing in this tournament, but it was not a terrible experience. In a couple of the weight classes we had tough losses in very close matches and were out of the tournament without placing.

“Andrew (Reich) is really wrestling well lately and he continued that today with five tough matches. Tyler Jacobson is back on the mat after an injury that kept him out of a few meets, and he had a good day going 3-1 and placing third … Quinten (Arndt) was very dominant today, earning three pins and not really in danger of giving up points. All in all this was a decent day, though we have to step it up coming into the end of the season, if we want to get the outcomes we were hoping for.”

Next up for NRHEG is a road triangular against Medford and Le Sueur-Henderson on Thursday.
