Tyler Julson: Hopefully Mother Nature gets bad weather out of her system

Notes from the Sports Desk by Tyler Julson
Wow, is it ever cold outside. School was even canceled because of the extreme cold. I’ve only been alive for 26 years, but that’s the first time I’ve ever experienced that. All of the sporting event cancellations over the past week have made me have flashbacks to this past spring. You know, the one where everyone was forced to play their entire seasons in about a month and a half because it took forever to melt the snow and then it rained for 80 percent of the spring.
Hopefully, this spell is Mother Nature getting a bad weather streak through her system before spring rolls around again.
Hockey Day was this past weekend and both the girls’ and boys’ teams came out and crushed Rochester Century. It was really great to watch the boys add to their dominating six-game win streak and the girls bust out of their losing streak.
The girls only have a few games to go before the start of their section tournament, the first game of which is scheduled to play Wednesday.
The Iowa winter seasons are starting to come to an end as well; both the boys’ and the girls’ basketball postseasons will start in about a week, and the sectional wrestling tournament is Saturday. I think there will be at least a couple wrestlers from Northwood-Kensett advancing to the next stage, and I would bet my last dollar there will be more than a handful of Lake Mills wrestlers making the district tournament.
Just a few days now until the Super Bowl. My predictions have been a little off lately, but I’m going to go against my preseason prediction and say the Patriots are going to pull it off once again.
Tom Brady is going to pull out some magic toward the end of the game and further prove to the world that he’s the best to ever play the game. Patriots in a close one, 34-31.
Stay safe and warm, everyone. It’s going to get a little warmer over the next few days, but not by much. May all of you be comforted by the the fact that golf season is just around the corner.
