Albert Lea dominates Winona

The Albert Lea wrestling team traveled to Winona on Thursday night for its final road meet of the regular season.

The Tigers had no trouble disposing of the Winhawks, only losing two matches en route to their 54-15 victory.

Senior Caleb Miller got things started with a quick first-period pinfall, ending the 106-pound match at 35 seconds. Sophomore Joey Flores was awarded a forfeit victory at 113 pounds, but that was followed by a rare loss for eighth-grader Cole Glazier against the No. 2-ranked Ryan Henningson.

Senior Nic Cantu got the Tigers back on the winning track with another first-round fall, pinning his opponent in 27 seconds. Freshman Cam Davis picked up a 13-4 major decision win at 132 pounds, and eighth-grader Derrick McMillian continued his win streak with a pinfall in the first period.

Sophomore Caleb Talamantes dominated in a 21-6 technical fall at 145 pounds, while sophomores Griffin Studier and Josiah Hedensten won via forfeits at 160 and 152 pounds, respectively.

Senior Connor Barney fell in a third period pinfall, but after a double forfeit at 182 pounds, senior Zach Glazier recorded the fastest pinfall of the night, only taking 21 seconds to win his match.

Senior Brady Nielsen won via a 3-1 decision and the Tigers lost the 285-pound match via forfeit.

The Tigers are now 16-5 overall and 7-1 in the Big Nine Conference. They have three more home duals before the start of team sections. Their next dual is set for 1 p.m. Saturday against St. Michael-Albertville.

Three Tigers remain ranked in the top 10 in their respective weight classes, according to theguillotine.com. Cole Glazier is No. 9 at 120 pounds, Cantu is No. 5 at 126 pounds and Zach Glazier is No. 1 at 182 pounds. The next set of rankings is scheduled to be released Friday.
