Carole Ardis Steene, 94, was called home to the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019.
Carole was born June 18, 1924, and raised in northern Iowa. She and her husband, Dennis, lived in Glenville, until 1997 when they moved to Sun City, Arizona.
After working in the restaurant business for many years, she retired as a teacher’s aide working at Glenville Elementary School. She was always busy taking care of family and friends, especially her mother and brother, who resided next door to her in Glenville. Baking was her specialty, and she always had plenty of treats to send home with her guests. Within the past several years, she never turned down the opportunity to win an exciting game of Mexican Train with her family and friends — even when she said she forgot how to play.
Carole is survived by a son, Larry Steene, and his wife, Bonnie, of Austin; her daughter, Sandy (Steene) Jensen, and her husband, Wayne, of Peoria, Arizona; four grandchildren, Troy Jensen and his wife, Esther, of Peoria, Michele (Steene) Phipps and her husband, Shannon, of Woodbury, Tami (Jensen) Gonzalez and her husband, Dave, of Phoenix and Marc Steene and his wife, Kim, of Austin; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis W. Steene; her parents John and Anna Randall of Glenville; her sister, Faye; and three brothers, Elston, Arden and Bill.
For the past three years, Carole happily resided in Peoria at an assisted living facility where she was loved by all and always had many visitors. Family members all have very fond memories of Carole commenting on how proud she was of her family and how much she loved it when everyone was together telling stories and laughing. Her sense of humor, faithful outlook and gentle touch will be missed.
