National Standards Board for Therapeutic Musicians elects A.L. musician as board secretary

The National Standards Board for Therapeutic Musicians announced that Rachel Christensen of Albert Lea and Sebastian, Florida, has been elected to its board of directors and executive committee, according to a press release.

After serving since 2016 as a representative of the International Harp Therapy Program to the board, Christensen was elected to serve as secretary for a term of three years.

“We are delighted to welcome Mrs. Christensen to the board and look forward to working together to advance the education of and opportunities for therapeutic musicians,” said Jefferson Svengsouk, National Standards Board for Therapeutic Musicians chairman and professor of emergency medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center.Christensen, a lifelong musician, is certified as a therapeutic harp practitioner through the International Harp Therapy Program and has offered her therapeutic harp music in skilled care, hospice, animal shelters and other facilities in Minnesota and Florida, the release states.

In addition to being a mentor and educator with the International Harp Therapy Program, she enjoys teaching, performing and composing music.

“I am honored to be a part of this board and look forward to working to build the awareness of what therapeutic musicians offer and to continue to advance our professional development,” Christensen said.
