HOLLANDALE — Serving God by serving others. The concept is by no means new. It has deep roots in the Christian faith.

Steve and Cheyenne Lundak of Hollandale recently began a new business in January with this specific concept in mind.

The decision came after a difficult time in Steve Lundak’s life.

“I needed different results in my life,” he said. “I unfortunately had a pattern of being sober for awhile and living sober and then I’d fall back.”

After completing treatment, Steve Lundak said he knew he had to change something.

“I needed to do things differently,” he said, noting that he worked for a good company at the time, but it just wasn’t in his heart to be a mechanic draftsman for the rest of his life.

What came next for the Lundaks was a lot of prayer.

“We prayed on it, I would say, since late summer or fall until we started working on our logo in December,” Cheyenne Lundak said.

C ’N’ S Serve now provides snow removal, house/business cleaning, home maintenance and lawn care services. An ichthys, also known as a Jesus fish, along with a cross are clearly visible on the couple’s business cards. The decision to include the religious symbols was meant to be an open door.

“If the opportunity to share the gospel and get people to know Christ (arises), then we definitely take it,” Steve Lundak said.

He said he and his wife have prayed with customers and keep a prayer list for them.

“We believe there’s big power in prayer,” Steve Lundak said.

“And we’ve seen it,” his wife added.

Steve Lundak came up with the idea for the business while mowing his own lawn. He had done various construction projects, including his own home remodeling project, and enjoyed taking care of his lawn care.

After a while he said he began to question himself.

“God has gifted me with the ability to do that kind of work, and I love to do that kind of work, so why am I not doing it more,” he said.

At first he envisioned himself riding a lawn mower or plowing driveways all the time, but reality soon set in when he realized just how much time it takes to manage business expenses and billing, yet he takes it all in stride.

“Being able to embrace what comes at me at different times was a challenge in the beginning,” he said, “But I feel God is telling me, ‘Alright, I’m going to give you things and you need to embrace them and not get disgruntled about them.’”

Steve Lundak works about 50 hours a week through jobs, servicing equipment and remodeling a shed on his property, which he intends to use for the business.

Cheyenne Lundack, who is also a dispatcher for the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, helps out on a part-time basis — mainly in the area of home/business cleaning.

Looking back, the choice to start the business wasn’t easy, but the couple is happy with their decision.

“It’s been one of the biggest leaps of faith we’ve taken,” Cheyenne Lundak said. “But God guided us and we knew that.”
