The Albert Lea baseball team started its season with a win Friday night in Faribault.
The Tigers used multi-hit games from a handful of players to down the Falcons and pick up a 10-2 victory.
Senior Parker Andersen was the winning pitcher, allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out four in 2.1 innings of work. Sophomore Blake Ulve pitched for three innings, giving up two hits while striking out three batters. Junior Gavyn Tlamka pitched one inning, allowing two runs on one hit, one walk and one hit by pitch. Brock Hammer came in to get the save.
Senior Drake Dawson was 2-2 at the plate with a walk and scoring two runs. Senior Ian Ball and Koby Hendrickson were each 2-3 in the game with Ball picking up an RBI, one stolen base and scoring one run, and Hendrickson recording two RBIs and one run.
Senior Carter Simon recorded two hits — including a triple — and a stolen base.
“Great team win,” said head coach Sean Gaston. “The veterans stepped up as leaders today and the young guys were fantastic in their first varsity experience. Proud of Parker Andersen, who has had to battle through a shoulder injury last year to get back to the mound. The money players of the game were our bullpen guys (Hammer and Ulve) who came in and ended some tight innings. We have many things to clean up, but this is an excellent way to have some confidence as we work on getting better.”
The Tigers move to 1-0 on the season and will be back in action with their first home game Tuesday when they host the Scarlets of Mankato West.
