1. ‘Both Sides of the Bars’

The Albert Lea Art Center is once again partnering with the Freeborn County Adult Detention Center for the “Both Sides of the Bars” art exhibit. There will be about 50 pieces of artwork, along with essays and stories on display for the show, which is free and open to the public. Pieces will be for sale at the show, which is a fundraiser for the detention center’s art program. There is an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, and then the exhibit will be open through June 8 at the Art Center, which is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. 

 

2. John Denver tribute

According to a press release, “the authentic sounds” of John Denver will come to life this weekend with the Table Salt Production of “Country Roads: The Music of John Denver.” The show will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $23 and are available at the Albert Lea Convention and Visitors Bureau, or in the theater lobby from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

 

3. The Met: Live in HD

The Met finishes its Live in HD season with Poulenc’s “Dialogues des Carmélites,” a drama of faith and martyrdom during the French Revolution. The story is historically based on a group of 16 Carmelite nuns and lay sisters from Compiègne, France. They chose to offer themselves as victims for the restoration of peace to France during the revolution. The showing of the season finale will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $20 for adults and can be purchased in the theater box office one hour before the opera.

 

4. ‘Artists in the Hood’

The Color Wheel Gifts and Decor will host “Artists in the Hood,” a show that features work from four different artists who are also friends and neighbors. The four artists — Pegi Sorenson, Patty Hove, Debb Peterson and Ann Oliphant — will have their work shown from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at The Color Wheel. The event is free to the public.

 

5. Rummage and bake sale

There will be a rummage and bake sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the Fairlane Building at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds. All proceeds will go toward students going on Crossroads Church’s Puerto Rico mission trip.
