EN(dur)ANCE by Robin Gudal
If you try to look up the definition of dyslexercise, you will not find it. I made it up! It, however, should be added to the dictionary.
I go to SNAP Fitness and Annie is my encourager AKA personal trainer. It took me years to give in. I liked the idea in my head. I know of its importance. It may even help me slim down. I just didn’t, couldn’t get my act together to follow through. It is hard! Especially if you don’t fit well into the cute clothing options for such an interest. When I went to Target to buy a few items, I literally got stuck and could not figure out how to get out of the cute and adorable top. Conclusion; if you can’t figure out how to wear the stuff, maybe you shouldn’t be doing this! I, however, laughed and pushed through.
I love my Annie! She may be stuck with me for life. I am just not wired to do this on my own. Oh, how I wished I was, I just can’t seem to figure out how to be excited about hurting (OK, building strength), sweating (ishy) and pushing myself (painful) in this area of life. Guess we’ll have more training times, Annie!
For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. 1 Timothy 4:8, New International Version
Annie was explaining something she wanted me to do. I looked at her with that deer in headlight look. I had no idea what muscle that even was. I knew even less about the command she was instructing. I do remember she wanted the motion to the left and I went to the right. “Oh,” I said. I had dyslexercise! The word was born. We use it often, meaning I often add laughter to her day!
Being cheerful keeps you healthy. Proverbs 17:22a, Good News Translation
One day after our time together, I was sharing with my dad that I graduated to the weighted ball (thing) with a handle and it was fun to swing it up, then down, and once almost up over the back of my head, told you we have fun! Thankfully, she has taught me better balance, so I didn’t get a head contusion or topple over backwards. I managed the new equipment. Then it hit me, that was a squat, I don’t like squats! Well, they are OK at first, it’s the burn later I don’t like. I have a rule, if I complain I must do more, so I try to not complain. I texted her that night, “It took me two days to realize you had me doing squats (with a weighted ball).” Again, she laughed. You are welcome, Annie, for the good chuckles!
Push yourself. Laugh. Appreciate others, even when they challenge you. Thanks again, Annie, you are the best! Now, put down the paper and go for a walk and start to become healthier. Just start. Start with five minutes. Our community has options: walking trails, beautiful lakes, SNAP, Anytime Fitness, CrossFit, the Y, your own block. Just start! Until next time, I have to go do my squats!
