50 years ago: 1969
• Ron Rasmusson and Dr. Jerry Rasmusson tied for first in the blind bogie part of competition during Arrrowhead Golf and Country Club men’s league play. Each had a 40.
• Dean Johnson’s base hit in the bottom of the seventh gave Interstate Power a 15-14 win over Trades and Labor in a city slow pitch American Division game.
• The Minnesota Twins ran their winning streak to four games with a 4-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox. Dave Boswell picked up his 10th win of the season and Harmon Killebrew belted his 19th home run for the Twins.
25 years ago: 1994
• Kirby Puckett was selected for his third straight All-Star game that was to be played at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh. Puckett was chosen on 2,722,255 ballots.
• The Albert Lea Eagles 15-year-old baseball team improved to 14-5 on the year with a 10-1 victory over Owatonna at Hayek Field. Ryan Long pitched a complete game, striking out seven.
• The Albert Lea under-16 boys’ soccer team defeated Prior Lake 2-1 at Southwest Field. Jesse McGill and Phil Louters scored for Albert Lea.
10 years ago: 2009
• The Albert Lea American Legion Post 56 baseball team picked up an 8-1 win over Waseca. Jordan Cooper gave up two hits over seven innings to get the win.
• Nick Blackburn pitched a complete game and Justin Morneau added a two-run home run in the Minnesota Twins 6-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers.
• It was announced that Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau and Joe Nathan would represent the Minnesota Twins in the All-Star game to be played at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. They would join former Twins Jason Bartlett, Torii Hunter and Johan Santana in the 80th mid-summer classic
This year
• The Albert Lea High School Athletic Hall of Fame is now held every other year, with the next banquet set for July 2020. Nomination forms are available at alefoundation.org/athletic-hall-of-fame. Over $7000 was raised at the 2018 event.
