Letter: China Restaurant deserves an apology for sign

Published 7:17 pm Monday, July 8, 2019

On Saturday evening while reading up on Happenings in Albert Lea on Facebook, I happened on a report of vandalism in town. I know that boys will be boys and that kids’ acts of rebellion are a common part of coming to terms with their place in society. What struck me was the fact that the graffiti was of such a racist nature.

China Restaurant has been a fixture of our community for more than 20 years. Johnny and his team do a fine job serving us some of our favorite food. It is shameful that anyone in our city would sink to the level of spray-painting racist assaults on such a pillar of our community.

China Restaurant deserves an apology from our city. They are welcome in Albert Lea and deserve to be treated with respect.

As Albert Lea has many places to eat out, I have been to China Restaurant fewer times in recent years. I, for one, am going to make a point to eat there more and show them that small-minded, racists do not represent all of Albert Lea.
