Funeral services for Helen S. Thompson of New Richland will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland. The Rev. Paul Andree will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Hartland Cemetery in Hartland.
Helen was born Aug. 1, 1933, at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea, the daughter of Harry and Stella (Tukua) Legried. She attended and graduated from Freeborn High School.
On June 30, 1951, Helen married Harold Thompson at Hartland Lutheran Church in Hartland. They later made their home in New Richland. Helen worked as a teller at State Bank of New Richland for 13 1/2 years. When Helen was expecting their first child, she decided to stay home and was a homemaker from that time on.
Helen was active in the American Legion, Trinity Lutheran Church women’s group and ladies aid circle. In her spare time she loved to sew, cook, bowl, go camping, play cards, go to the casino and cheer for the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings. Above all, she loved her family and always put them first. Helen was a very patient person and spending time with her grandchildren put a smile on her face.
Helen is survived by her husband, Harold, of New Richland; her children Michelle (Mark) Boelter of Winona, Michael (Jennifer) Thompson of New Richland and Mitchell (Melissa) Thompson of New Richland; seven grandchildren, Allison and Brandon Boelter of Winona, Sophie and Walker Thompson of New Richland and Jordan Allen, Braeden and Kaylei Thompson of New Richland; and many nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Elaine (Milo) Peterson; father-in-law and mother-in-law Arthur and Caroline (Sibilrud) Thompson; sisters-in-law Alice Rosenthal, Clarice Hendricks and Mae O’Neal; and brothers-in-law James, Arville, George, Vernon and Elvern Thompson.
