5 things to do this weekend

1. Classic car and motorcycle show

A second annual classic car and motorcycle roll-in picnic for veterans and families will be from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot near the Albert Lea Veterans Administration Clinic at Skyline Plaza. People are welcome to bring their rides to show off at the family friendly event, and those who don’t have a ride to share are still welcome to attend.

There will be free food and beverages, live music provided by Flashback, face-painting and games, a fire department display, tours and more. Those with questions can call 507-377-6051.

2. SuperRigs

The 37th annual Shell Rotella SuperRigs competition will take place in Albert Lea this year. The event will be Thursday through Saturday, mainly at Trail’s Travel Center. According to a press release, the SuperRigs competition is “the premier truck beauty contest for actively working trucks.” Truck judging will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Trail’s. A convoy of rigs will depart Trail’s on Thursday for downtown Albert Lea to be on display from about 5 to 7:45 p.m. during Thursdays on Fountain. There will be a contestant dinner from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Trail’s, followed by a best lights judging contest from 8 to 10 p.m., with Casi Joy performing at 8:45 p.m. and a fireworks show around 10 p.m. There will be a contestant lunch from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Trail’s, followed by the SuperRigs award ceremony from 2:30 to 4 p.m. SuperRigs is reportedly free to attend.

 

3. A Hard Day’s Night

A Beatles tribute band will be back in the A.L.M.N. this weekend for a show intended to pay homage to the legendary artists. A Hard Day’s Night will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Marion Ross Performing Arts Center in Albert Lea. In addition to playing Beatles music, the group also plays dress-up, including the outfits featured on the Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.” The band lists over 65 songs as part of its touring repertoire.

 

4. H2Whoa!

The Albert Lea Parks and Recreation Department brings its larger-than-life traveling water slide back to life this summer with H2Whoa! The hillside slip ’n’ slide will be at Wedgewood Park from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday. The event is free, and attendees are reminded to wear their swimsuits and bring a towel.

 

5. Party in the park

Hope Church will sponsor its free party in the park from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Park in Albert Lea, which is behind HealthReach. The family friendly event will include free food, bouncehouses, games, prizes and more.
