On Oct. 17, 1959, Thomas was united in marriage to Marlene Reiland in Owatonna. He worked as a baker at Boyd and Jack’s Super Valu from 1961 to 1987 in addition to Freeborn County Co-op. and Schweigert Foods. Thomas was a member of St. Theodore and the American Legion.

He was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and enjoyed gardening, fishing and deer hunting. He loved to travel — especially to Duluth to watch the boats. He also enjoyed coaching little league baseball with his co-worker, Daniel Young.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Marlene Reiland, of Albert Lea; children Jeffrey Reiland of Owatonna, Julie (Jeff) Claussen of Albert Lea and Jim Reiland of Albert Lea; grandchildren Josh (Steph) Claussen of Albert Lea and Lindsay (Devon Desart) Claussen of Albert Lea; great-grandchildren Carsen Claussen, Cadence Claussen and Lillie Desart; sister, Catherine Reiland, of Rochester; sisters-in-law Marcia (Harold) Opdahl of Rochester and Vi Reiland of Rochester; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a special thanks to St. John’s Lutheran Community and Mayo Clinic Health System for the wonderful care Thomas received.
