Car hit by train after it gets stuck on tracks

A Minneapolis man was able to safely get out of his vehicle before it was struck by a train early Monday morning south of the Freeborn County courthouse.
According to police, Nehemiah Edris, 21, reportedly drove around the barricades near the construction at the intersection of Newton Avenue and Front Street before getting stuck on the railroad tracks on Newton Avenue.
Authorities stated a deputy was coming out of the sally port at the courthouse and noticed the car was stuck and helped Edris get out of the vehicle.
Shortly after, the train came through and hit the 2008 Chevy Impala.
The incident took place shortly before 1:30 a.m.
Edris was charged with driving after revocation, driving around a barricade and no proof of insurance, all misdemeanors.
